Our history

In 2017, a pivotal moment reshaped Europe: The European Universities Initiative, initiated by the European Commission, was introduced. This key event aimed to foster alliances among higher education institutions across the continent, fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and encouraging mutual recognition. The objective was to create a more unified and integrated European Higher Education Area and enhance the competitiveness, quality, and global standing of European institutions while promoting mobility, language learning, and European values. In response to this initiative, the European Universities Community (EUC) emerged.

The European Universities Community (EUC) is a grassroots initiative gathering student and staff from European University Alliances. It was created in 2022 during the Conference on the Future of Europe to give the opportunity to students from the EUAs to contribute to the digital platform, notably thanks to the recommendations adopted in the inaugural session of ESA in 2022.

Objectives

- Voice the opinion of European Universities Alliances (EUAs) students from different countries, backgrounds, fields and levels of study, all recruited for their engagement and motivation.

- Foster the participation of students in the EUA initiatives;

- Reinforce collaboration within the network of EUAs;

- Increase the impact and visibility of the EUA initiative;

- Open the EUA network to other universities and society actors;

- Lay the foundations of a long-term initiative to increase the participation of youth in the European democratic process.
